HERITAGE SWEATER is a boyfriend-style raglan sweater with an oversized, cosy fit, a deep yoke, and extra-long sleeves and body. This timeless design features a classic all-over stranded colourwork pattern that can be worked in a single colour or by alternating multiple contrast colours—though only two colours are worked at a time. The rhythmic and easy-to-memorise pattern makes this garment ideal for knitters new to stranded colourwork.
HERITAGE draws inspiration from traditional Norwegian menswear and embodies the 'I borrowed this' feeling—like wearing your boyfriend's, husband's, or father’s big old sweater. Originally published in 2021, the design has been revamped for 2025 with an inclusive size range, improved grading, detailed instructions, and a lighter, more comfortable yarn choice.

Please choose a size 14-24 cm/ 5.5-9.5 in larger than your actualchestcircumference. For the best results, please view the table and schematic (pages 6 and 7) to review the measurements at other body points. With greater discrepancies in upper chest and full chest measurements, I recommend going with the upper chest measurement. The sample in the photos is size 2with 22 cm/ 8.75 in positive ease.

You can choose from 9 unisex size-inclusive sizes, with finished bust circumferences of:

  • 88, 98, 108 [118, 128, 138] {148, 158, 168} cm | 34.75, 38.5, 42.5 [46.5, 50.5, 54.25] {58.25, 62.25, 66.25} in

to fit upper bust:

  • 74.5, 84, 94.5 [102, 108, 115] {122.5, 130, 137.5} cm | 29.25, 33, 37.25 [40.25, 42.5, 45.25] {48.25, 51.25, 54.25} in

and full bust from:

  • 72, 82, 92 [102, 114, 120] {130, 142, 152} cm | 28, 32.25, 36.25 [40.5, 45, 47.75] {51.5, 56, 59.75} in

to:

  • 82, 92, 102 [112, 124, 130] {140, 152, 162} cm | 32, 36.25, 40.25 [44.5, 48.75, 51.5] {55.5, 59.75, 63.75} in.

A schematic with comprehensive measurements is included in the knitting pattern.

The provided meterages/ yardages (yds approx. due to rounding) already include a safety margin. However, please note that your individual yarn consumption may vary based on your yarn, gauge, size, and the desired sleeve/body length. It is advisable to get a little more than you think you’ll need.

The meterages listed for each colour separately are higher because I have added a larger safety margin for using multiple colours as opposed to just one. The reason for this is that you may use more or less of each colour depending on their order in the project.
