Heritage Cowl

The Heritage Cowl is a beginner-friendly stranded colourwork accessory knitting pattern, designed as a companion to the Heritage Sweater and sharing the same rhythmic, all-over two-colour motif. Its compact circular construction makes it an ideal introduction to stranded knitting in the round — a low-commitment project that builds the skills and confidence needed for the full sweater, while being a genuinely useful and stylish accessory in its own right.

The cowl works well in a single contrast colour or with alternating colours for a more dynamic result, making it a natural stash-busting project and a practical way to test colour combinations before committing to a full sweater quantity. Worked in worsted weight yarn — including unspun wool — it knits up quickly and suits a range of skill levels, from those completely new to colourwork to more experienced knitters looking for a satisfying, fast project.

The Heritage Cowl's aesthetic draws on traditional Norwegian knitwear, translated into a minimal, wearable form. Available in English as a digital PDF download.

The cowl is available in a unisex adult size; however, it is easy to adapt for personal preferences, gauge discrepancies, or children.
