Lo·ki (Loki) Cardigan

The Lo·Ki Cardigan is a low-key, contemporary cardigan with an oversized fit, long sleeves and body, and a high neckline that can be worn folded or left straight. Optional pockets add a practical, relaxed dimension to the garment. The design is worked in worsted weight unspun Nutiden yarn from Höner och Eir, and like the Lo·Ki Raglan sweater, it is an excellent project for knitters new to working with unspun yarn — the construction is forgiving and the fabric knits up with a natural, pleasingly tactile result.

The cardigan is knitted from the bottom up in the round and then steeked — a technique that allows circular construction for a garment that opens at the front. Sleeves are knitted separately before being joined with the body on a long circular needle. The yoke is shaped with raglan decreases, and the neck is formed simultaneously using German short rows. Once the steek is reinforced and cut, stitches are picked up to work the button bands, neckline, and optional pockets.

Detailed instructions guide you through each stage of the process, including the steeking technique, making this a well-supported introduction to a construction method that opens up a wide range of future knitting possibilities. The finished cardigan is a refined, versatile layering piece suited to everyday wear across all seasons.
