Fjelltur – from the Norwegian for mountain tour – is an oversized stranded colourwork yoke sweater with a generous silhouette, long sleeves and body, and a deep, comfortable neckline. Knitted from the bottom up in the round, the sleeves are worked separately before being joined with the body on a long circular needle. The yoke is then shaped with German short rows, integrating the colourwork detail as the garment comes together in the round.

The colourwork pattern at the yoke and borders features stylised mountain peaks and spruce trees, drawn from the landscapes of my favourite hiking routes. This Nordic motif is worked in a bulky-weight yarn, producing a fabric that is warm, substantial, and full of texture – qualities well suited to outdoor wear in cooler climates.

The design pairs naturally with Istex Álafoss Lopi or similar 100 m per 100 g bulky wool yarns. It suits knitters familiar with stranded colourwork at a bulky gauge.
