First Light Socks

First Light Socks are knitted from the top down, beginning at the cuff before moving into a stranded colourwork section that carries the same motif found in the First Light Sweater. The heel is worked and shaped with short rows, followed by gusset shaping and a plain foot section that finishes with classic toe decreases. The result is a well-fitting, beautifully detailed sock that pairs naturally with its sweater counterpart.

The colourwork detail is deliberately compact and rhythmic, making it manageable for knitters who are building confidence with stranded technique at a smaller scale. Worked at an aran gauge, the socks knit up with satisfying speed and are warm enough for three-season wear.

First Light was inspired by the dappled light that filters through pine trees on early summer mornings — a quiet, naturalistic motif that translates well into the repeating geometry of a sock pattern. The digital PDF is available from Ulven Knit in English.

Please choose a size with 3-5 cm negative ease.
