Moss Haven Sweater - Knitting Pattern

€9,50

The Moss Haven Sweater is a modified drop-shoulder knitting pattern designed for an oversized, enveloping fit — soft, comfortable, and quietly luxurious in silk mohair. The silhouette is generously proportioned with a cloud-like drape, created by working two or more strands of laceweight silk mohair held together. Blending multiple shades produces a fabric with depth and tonal complexity that shifts subtly in different light, much like moss in a shaded wood.

The pattern is worked top-down in a worsted weight equivalent achieved by holding multiple strands of KFO or similar silk mohair together, making it an accessible construction for intermediate knitters familiar with the drop-shoulder format. The design grew from a wish to recreate a beloved accidentally felted sweater entirely from memory and feeling, which gives the finished garment an unhurried, intuitive quality. Experimenting with your own colour blend is strongly encouraged.

Moss Haven is an ideal project for knitters who love tactile, wearable knitwear with a touch of everyday luxury. Available in English as a digital PDF download.

This pattern is designed for 18-28 cm/ 7-11 in of positive ease. With greater discrepancies in upper chest and full chest measurements, I recommend going with the upper chest measurement. The samples in the photos are in size 2 with 26 cm/ 10.25 in positive ease.

You can choose from 9 unisex sizes, with finished bust circumferences of:

The provided meterages/ yardages (yds approx. due to rounding) already include a safety margin. However, please note that your individual yarn consumption may vary based on your yarn, gauge, size, and the desired sleeve/body length. It is advisable to get a little more than you think you’ll need.

YARN SUBSTITUTES

Any silk mohair yarn of choice, held triple. If you want to achieve a result close to the original but don’t want to use silk mohair, you should use a yarn that is lightweight, fluffy, and has a lot of halo, such as brushed alpaca (e.g., Sandnes - Børstet Alpakka, Kaos Yarn - Organic Brushed Alpaca). Blown yarns also provide a lightweight alternative, such as CaMaRose Snefnug or Isager Eco Soft. However, you can also use any yarn that meets the gauge, but please be mindful that different yarns and fibers will behave differently. I would still recommend using lightweight woolen spun yarns or soft unspun yarn (such as Nutiden from Höner och Eir, Manchelopis from Wooldreamers) held single, double, or together with a strand of silk mohair for best results.
