Stormur Sweater - Knitting Pattern

The Stormur Sweater is a contemporary reimagining of the classic Icelandic Lopapeysa, drawing on the rich tradition of stranded colourwork yoke sweaters while giving it a clean, modern sensibility. The name — meaning storm in Icelandic — is reflected in the bold, minimalist geometric colourwork that spans the yoke, creating a striking visual statement without overwhelming the simplicity of the silhouette.

Designed for knitters of all skill levels, the Stormur Sweater works up in worsted weight using unspun yarn, which gives the finished garment exceptional warmth and a natural, slightly rustic drape. The stranded colourwork yoke is worked in the round from the top down, making the construction intuitive even for those new to colourwork sweaters. The geometric pattern repeat is straightforward to follow, offering a satisfying introduction to two-colour circular knitting.

Whether worked in classic Icelandic tones or reinterpreted in contemporary colour combinations, the Stormur Sweater sits comfortably between heritage craft and current knitwear design — a wardrobe piece that wears its influences lightly while remaining thoroughly wearable.
